Nervecentre V8.1 Help for Users
List of attributes for patient lists
smartlists, smart lists
From the smartlist editor, you can select and enter different attributes for a patient list Also known as smartlists or smart lists. Patient lists show you a list of patients who meet a set of criteria. For example, patients in ward 17..
Attributes change:
-
What Nervecentre searches
For example, if you select 'Current ED/Inpatients' from Constrain to, Nervecentre checks if any current inpatients meet the criteria.
-
How Nervecentre displays the results
For example, if you select 'Length of Stay Descending' from Sort by, Nervecentre orders patients by the length of their stay. The patient with the longest stay at the top and the patient with the shortest stay at the bottom.
The available attributes and their options are listed below.

Select an option from Constrain to to change the patients Nervecentre checks meet the criteria.
For example, if you select 'Current ED/Inpatients', Nervecentre checks if any current inpatients meet the criteria.

Select an option from Access to choose who can view the patient list. Access to a patient list also depends on your permissions.

A private patient list is visible only to the person who created it. |
Shared |
A shared patient list is visible to all users. |
Shared/Referrals |
The patient list is visible to all users. Users with the correct permissions can manually add patients to the patient list. |
Restricted |
Patient lists restricted to a pool of users driven by user permissions, for example, safeguarding. |
Administrative |
The patient list is only visible in the admin pages. |
Outlier Definition |
Outlier lists are used to determine if a patient is an outlier, and are not intended as user-facing lists. These lists define what outlier means in other parts of Nervecentre. For example, you can create a patient list that returns a list of cardiology patients on a gastroenterology ward. You set the access to 'Outlier Definition'.
The patient list is only visible in the admin pages. |

A query returns a list of patients. Select an option from Sort by to choose the default sort order for the list.
Users can view the list in a different order by selecting a column header. When sorting alphabetically, ascending means A>Z with numbers first and descending means Z>A with numbers coming last.
Ward, Bay, Bed Ascending |
Patients in each ward are listed together, for example, patients in Ward 1 are together and followed by patients in Ward 2. Within each ward the patients are listed alphabetically according to the name of their bed, regardless of whether the bed name is a number, a bay-bed number, for example, 1-2, or an actual name. Choose this option if the list contains multiple wards. |
Ward, Bay, Bed Descending |
The reverse of the above. |
Bay, Bed Ascending |
As the first option, but the ward is not considered. For example, bed 1-2 on Ward 1 is listed immediately after bed 1-1 on Ward 2. |
Bay, Bed Descending |
The reverse of the above. |
Bed Inventory Ascending |
The bed inventory provides the option to sort the beds in each ward, numbering them 1-X. Choose this option to show the patient list according to the sort order specified in the bed inventory. |
Bed Inventory Descending |
The reverse of the above. |
Length of Stay Descending |
Patients in the list are ordered with the patient with the longest stay at the top and the patient with the shortest stay at the bottom. |

Select a clinical note profile. When a user views this patient list, this clinical note profile is automatically selected.
For example, you might want the patient list 'ED All Adults' to always open with the clinical note profile 'ED Dashboard'.

Sometimes Nervecentre goes offline, for example, due to network issues. When Nervecentre comes back online, Nervecentre needs to make the patient lists active again.
Select a priority. The priority determines the order that Nervecentre makes patient lists active again. A high priority patient list is made active before a normal priority list.
